Potassium Bromide (KBr)

Written by PetCoach Editorial

Potassium bromide is an oral medication used to control seizures and epilepsy in dogs and cats. (Epilepsy can NOT be cured, only controlled.) Sedation is often seen during the first few weeks of treatment. It may take 4-5 months before the full effect of the medication is seen. Do NOT miss a dose. Missing a dose could cause a seizure. Consult your veterinarian if your pet experiences a change in appetite, thirst, weight, urination, or activity level, or jaundice (e.g., yellowing of the gums, skin, or whites of the eyes), vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea develops while your pet is being treated with potassium bromide.
