My Shih Tzu has kidney failure and now is weak when he walks but he is eating and drinking. Moan's when walks. What can I give him.

You should take him to your vets for a blood test to check his kidneys values. Weakness can be a sign of deterioration in kidneys performance. I don't think there is anything you can do at home to help him. Please, check this website: http://www.iris-kidney.com/ you will find there plenty of information about kidney failure in dogs.

Well the key is trying to find the source of his pain. If it is his kidneys then proper IV fluid therapy and diuresis may be need along with strong opiate therapy (safe on kidneys) that can be prescribed by your veterinarian. Any type of NSAID is contraindicated in pets with kidney failure as these are filtered through the kidneys and will worsen his condition so it is vital to get him proper and safe medications through your vet. Tramadol (affordable pain medicine) is typically prescribed for this condition and can be given quite frequently (every 8 hrs if needed) to help control pain.
Also I would entertain the idea of possible arthritis as a cause of the pain if your pets kidneys are currently being managed well with therapy. For arthritic pain Tramadol can still be used, along with joint supplements. My top recommendations for joint supplement therapy are Dasuquin and Cosequin which are available online, through your vet and at some local pet supple stores.
