Our senior dog started panting excessively and pacing today. She can't seem to settle down. What could be the issue?

Excessive panting and pacing may be signs of severe pain, in this case likely abdominal pain or overall arthritic pain. Since the Malinois breed is also prone to bloat I would take her to a veterinarian right away to rule that out. Abdominal pain can be caused by pancreatitis, gastric ulcers, bloat and GDV, tumors. Your vet will be able to rule out most of them via a clinical exam and blood tests and radiographs. Please take Ginger to a vet or veterinary ER right away as this could be an emergency.

This could be due to pain (internal or orthopedic), a problem in the brain (e.g. tumor), age related changes or a heart/lung condition. If she is still the same by tomorrow, take her to the vet for a physical examination and diagnostics.Hopefully, this will reveal the problem and I hope it will be treatable.
