Is it safe to deworm an elderly cat of hookworm and if so which brand should I trust.

Hookworms should be treated for no matter how old the pet is. Dewormers are very safe products and have few side effects and hardly any drug interactions. As far as brand for dewormer I really can't recommend any over the counter ones in particular due to inexperience using any of them. However this is a simple fix with the active ingredient "pyrantel palmoate" or "fenbendazole", either of which are readily available through your veterinarian.
Also if your older cat has hookworms (which are only seen by a microscope), then there is a chance other worms are also present, so I would suggest having Suzie's fecal checked to make sure she gets a complete treatment.

yes, you should worm him. you should go to your vet and get the treatment from him as you will not find anything reliable over the counter. the most well known dewormer is called "drontal".
