How much Ketoconazole 200mg should be given to a small dog, approx. 12 lbs, for a yeast infection in both ears and for how long?
-
The recommended dosage for Ketoconazole is 5-10 mg/kg every 24 hrs. However I rarely use Ketoconazole to treat an ear infection because of low penetration to that area. Ketoconazole is often used to treat yeast infections on the skin and respiratory system because it has great penetration in those areas. Using Ketoconazole orally for Bruiser will likely not cure his infection, and instead he will need a topical anti-fungal medication that is placed directly in the ears. Anti-fungal treatments for ears typically last for 10 days in duration and sometimes longer if needed.

Yeast infection in dogs is not treated with oral Ketaconazole, it is treated with topical anti fungal ear drops. You will need to take him to the vet in order to get a prescription for those eardrops, you will have to treat your dog for 2-3 weeks depending on the severity of the infection.
