I gave my puppy a raw chicken foot. A few hours later I gave him some Pepto Bismol. Will the Pepto Bismol interfer with the digestion of the foot?

Pepto Bismol has been used to treat upset stomach in dogs, but it should never be given without discussing it with a vet first. I would actually be more concerned about the bones in the chicken foot. They can get stuck in a young puppy's intestinal tract, potentially causing perforation of the intestines. You need to monitor your puppy closely. If your puppy begins vomiting, has diarrhea, or becomes very lethargic, you need to get Rio into the vet right away as the foot may be stuck. In the future, I would not recommend giving your dog any more raw chicken feet, or any raw meat. In addition, do not give him cooked bones, as those can splinter in the intestinal tract.

No, it should not cause any problems with digestion. As a general rule, we don't recommend giving any human medications to your dog without first consulting a vet - but in this case, it shouldn't cause any issues.

No Pepto Bismol does not interfere with the digestion of food. It helps coat the stomach to aid with any damage along the intestinal tract (i.e. stomach ulcer, irritation), but Rio should still be able to digest the food properly.
