Yes, surgery is the only treatment for a persistent right aortic arch. You will need to get a referral to a veterinary surgeon who can assess the situation and give you a proper prognosis with or without the surgery. Unfortunately, your post was cut off, but I think that you are asking if surgery is the only option for a persistent right aortic arch (PDA). Surgery depends on the way the blood is shunted in the PDA. Surgery is the only option for a left to right PDA shunting, but dogs with right to left shunting PDA should never have surgical correction. Your vet can discuss what the options are for a dog with a right to left shunting PDA. Dogs with a normal left to right PDA shunt can be treated normally after they have been allowed two weeks to recover from their surgical correction.
