My dog had puppies a week ago and the puppies seem to have mange what can I do to help them
-
If the puppies are only a week old, there are limited treatment options for them because they are so young. In newborn pups, some vets will use lime sulfur dips to treat for mange but you should not do this without an exam by a vet to confirm the diagnosis - I would recommend taking mom and puppies in for an exam. Your vet can do a simple test called a skin scrape to determine if mange is the problem, since there are several other things that can also cause skin issues in young puppies.

In young puppies, Demodex mange is the likely cause of the mange. They could also be suffering from a bacterial infection. I recommend taking them into your vet after the 4th of July holiday (if you are in the US) to have your vet diagnose the problem and prescribe the appropriate treatment.

At this age it is usually demodex mites, or they may suffer from a bacterial skin infection. Take mother and puppies to a veterinarian ASAP (on Monday, or if you are in the US, on Tuesday) for an exam and treatment, if necessary.
