So my dog has this dry cough that sounds like he's going to vomit, but only seems to do it indoors. It goes away some days, but comes back again.

A dry cough that sounds like he's going to vomit may be caused by kennel cough. Kennel cough in dogs (commonly known as Canine cough) is an upper respiratory infection caused by both a bacteria and a virus. A dry, hacking cough is a classic symptom of kennel cough. The cough is generally dry and may be described as a honking noise. Unfortunately the cough is constant and persistent. Some dogs may experience a coughing fit every few minutes. Others may constantly be coughing as they are walking, lying down and going about their daily activities. The cough is probably the most uncomfortable aspect of kennel cough in dogs. I recommend taking Bruce into your vet to see if he does have kennel cough. The disease usually runs its course and the animal will frequently recover on his own. But Bruce may need antibiotics and cough medications, so I would take him into your vet very soon.

This could be due to a few different things - a respiratory infection or allergies would be most common in a young dog like Bruce. I would recommend having him examined by a vet - he/she can listen to his heart and lungs to make sure there are no serious problems, and may prescribe an antibiotic or a steroid to help with the cough.
