Frontline spot-on treatment and Frontline flea spray are both labeled for use in nursing mother dogs. Another option is an over-the-counter tablet called Capstar - it kills fleas quickly and lasts for 24 hours, and is also safe for use in nursing moms. You can also bathe mom and pups in Dawn dish soap and warm water if needed, then use a flea comb to remove dead or dying fleas. Make sure to wash all bedding after treatment to remove any remaining fleas, flea larvae and flea eggs from the environment.

It is ok for you to use approved flea treatments on a nursing mother, such as Frontline Plus and Revolution. Revolution cannot be used on puppies younger than 6 weeks of age. Whichever product is chosen, be sure to use the correct size according to your dog's body weight and follow label directions closely. Trifexis is considered unsafe to use in pregnant dogs.
