My St. Bernard is on Cephalexin for an infected heat spot. He will not eat which is unusual. What can I give him to ease the digestive issue with RX

Poor Guinness - antibiotics can cause GI upset in some dogs, just like people. There are a few things you can do to help. First, I would offer him something bland and easily digestible such as plain boiled chicken and white rice - this may help to settle his stomach, and is very tasty so he may be willing to eat it even if he isn't eating his dog food right now. If possible, try to give his antibiotic dose with a meal. You can also try a probiotic for dogs such as Forti-Flora to help get the bacterial population in his GI tract back to normal. If he doesn't eat in the next 24 hours, I would recommend talking with your vet to see if it might be possible to change to a different antibiotic, or get him some anti-nausea medication to help make him feel better.

In some dogs Cephalexin can cause nausea, try giving the antibiotics on a full stomach, but obviously he would need to eat first. Medications to relieve nausea are prescription only, so if he continues showing no appetite, you will have to go back to the vet in order to get those medications. In the meantime try offering him some boiled chicken, that might bring the appetite back.
