Why is my dog aggressive towards other dogs but not humas

This is a common problem - many dogs are selectively aggressive towards other dogs but not people. In most cases, this is because your dog may be anxious or uncomfortable around other dogs. He may have had a scary experience with another dog in the past, or he may not have much experience with other dogs so is wary of them.
Treatment for this problem is based on teaching your dog to associate good things (usually treats!) with seeing other dogs. When you go for a walk, you can take treats with you, and praise and reward every time your dog sees another dog. Keep feeding until the other dog has passed by and is no longer in sight, then stop. Soon, your dog will begin looking at your for his treat when he sees a dog, rather than barking and lunging.
A good reward-based trainer or (ideally!) a veterinary behaviorist can be very helpful for problems like this, so I would recommend getting in touch with someone in your area for an in-person evaluation of your dog if possible. He/she can help you understand why your dog is acting this way, and put together a training plan to work on it with you. You can search these websites for someone in your area to work with: www.davcb.org and www.ccpdt.org.
