I'd like to give my 90 lb Doberman a Valium in order to clip his nails. It's almost impossible to get them cut otherwise. What would be the right dose

Valium is a controlled substance, and in the United States can be prescribed only by a veterinarian who has examined the patient prior to the prescription. Oral Valium has variable sedative qualities in young dogs anyways, and would likely not provide enough sedation to make your dog submit to nail trims if he doesn't want to. Consider consulting your veterinarian about having his nails trimmed in the veterinary office using injectable sedation that can be reversed once it is no longer needed. Also, many dogs will submit to having their nails filed down with a Dremmel rotary tool as opposed to nail clippers. The Dremmel also makes it easier to avoid cutting into the quick because the nail can be more cautiously and slowly filed down.

If your dog enjoys chasing a ball or toy, throw it on a concrete driveway or sidewalk, or take him for walks on a similar hard surface. I had a German Shepherd that was horrible for nail trims, but chasing a ball on a hard, abrasive surface helped keep his at a reasonable length without having to trim them.

Unfortunately only your personal vet can give you a prescription or a dosage recommendation for such a medication, it is against the law for us to do that, but you would need a high dosage of valium in order to be able to clip her nails and such a dosage would not be safe without the vet's supervision anyway.
If Farrah is not walking much on concrete, that might be the reason why she needs her nails clipped, if you walk her 20-30 minutes a day on concrete it will wear the nails down and you won't need to clip them.
