My vet says that my dog has pancreatitis. She has had it 4 times since September. The vet said this last time that they believe that she has an abscess on her pancreas and we started lactaid ringers again, we fasted for 24 hrs and they put her on new meds again. She still wasnt responding or eating so I went in on friday and they gave me tremadol. Well her eye got red and swollen and her breathing got raspy. So he said to give her Benadryl with the meds. Could this be a misdiagnosis?

There is a lot more to be discussed to determine if there is another disease process here besides pancreatitis. Pancreatitis diagnosis is also pretty straight forward because the test to confirm is a snap test. However the symptoms are suggestive that perhaps another disease process may be at play and an abdominal ultrasound (+/- biopsies) is definitely the next best step towards a complete analysis of Siah's condition. That is the only way a diagnosis of an abscess, inflammation or even a pancreatic tumor can be made definitively. The red eye and heavy breathing can indicate an allergic reaction to one of the medications that she received or it could indicate something else altogether. A look at her bloodwork results and deeper discussion is needed to make a final say.

I'm sorry to hear about Siah's condition, but I honestly couldn't tell you much regarding the diagnosis without seeing the actual test results first. In order to confirm the presence of pancreatitis, a special blood test needs to be done. If the vet wants to know how bad the pancreatitis is then an ultrasound done by a specialist would be the next step.
