Lumps or growths on a dog should be evaluated by a veterinarian. There are many different types of lumps/growths that a dog can get including cysts, lipomas, neoplasms (cancer), and benign tumors. During a physical examination, your vet will take into account the size, shape, location, appearance, texture, and discharge contents of the lump, as well as use diagnostic tools like needle aspirate biopsy, to properly diagnosis the lump and offer you treatment options.

If the lump is reoccurring you can continue to have it drained, leave it alone if it is benign, or discuss removal options with your veterinarian.

It sounds like your dog has a cyst. I recommend getting it checked by you vet just to make sure that it isn't anything more serious. Such growths aren't usually removed unless they get in the way of mobility or gets abraded or injured in some way. If your dog needs to have an anesthetic procedure at some point, such as a dental cleaning, the growth can be removed sat the same time, thereby minimizing anesthetic risk by doing two surgeries with one anesthetic induction.
