What can I put on to take away the itching once bitten by fleas
-
When bitten by a flea on yourself or on your pet, it is best to also be treating the fleas at the same time to prevent further bites. For short term relief of flea bites for you or your pet (sometimes called flea-bite allergy), an over the counter allergy medication is effective. If you'd like to give some to your pet, your local vet can give you the correct dosage and amount to give depending on your pet's size and species.
For treating fleas, be sure to use a monthly preventive treatment to help prevent fleas from jumping on and biting your pet, and from entering the home. If your pet already has a flea problem, it may take a few months of continued use before the fleas are completely gone. Washing all bedding and other surfaces your pet frequents as well as washing your pet and vacuuming and cleaning nooks and crannies in the house (fleas love to live in baseboards and will become more active there in warmer weather) will help speed up the flea removal process.
Fleas often become more active in spring and summer during warmer times, so now is the time to get fleas under control if you are in a cool-weather area, before they become worse!
