Is fish flex (cephalexin) the same type of antibiotic used for dogs?
-
Although Fish Flex contains cephalexin, which is an antibiotic that is frequently used in dogs (especially for skin conditions), products that are manufactured for use in aquatic species do not undergo the same types of testing as those for the veterinary or human markets. These products are typically sold over the counter in pet or aquatic stores, and there are no guarantees that these products actually contain the amounts of medications they purport to contain, unlike pharmaceuticals made for the human and veterinary markets. Although it's unlikely that these products are unsafe to give to animals, it maybe be just as unlikely that they will be effective, and you should consider whether you will waste critical time in getting an accurate diagnosis and using an effective treatment by using a product like this.
