Dog chewed on peony stem for less than a minute. Is it ok?

This plant is listed on the Aspca website as being toxic to dogs. It can cause vomiting, diarrhea and depression. I would highly recommend calling them to talk with a toxicologist to determine what necessary steps are needed to ensure Sophie's safety, which is entirely dependent on how much she may have ingested. Their number is 888-426-4435 and they do charge a nominal fee. Best of luck with Sophie and I truly hope everything turns out ok for her. Best wishes. https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants/peony

That was naughty of Sophie to check on the peony! This plant contains the toxin called paeonol, which is concentrated in the bark of the plant. Toxicity typically occurs when the plant and bark is ingested, and clinical signs include vomiting, diarrhea, and depression. Large amounts need to be ingested to induce clinical signs, and if Sophie only chewed on the stem, she should be fine. Monitor her to be safe, and if you do see any of the signs I mentioned above, then I would have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps :-)
