What type of injuries and illnesses are cockapoo most susceptible to? How do you prevent them?
-
With both Cocker Spaniels and Poodles in the mix, Cockapoos can be prone to developing a variety of conditions, including ear infections, luxating patellas (loose kneecaps), obesity, eye conditions (progressive retinal atrophy, glaucoma, etc.), among others. Unfortunately, there is no surefire way to prevent any of these conditions. The best thing you can do is stay on top of routine veterinary care so that your vet can determine if Latte has developed any new changes. At home, make sure that she is eating, drinking and acting normally, and regularly look in her ears, eyes, mouth, feet, and skin to determine if anything has changed. Regular preventative care, including vaccines, deworming treatments, flea and tick prevention, and heartworm prevention are also crucial to her overall wellbeing. I hope this helps!

Hi. The best things for Latte is to have regular veterinary visits as a puppy to get him vaccinated as recommended and on parasite prevention. Puppies typically receive a series of vaccines starting between 6-8 weeks and getting boostered every 3-4 weeks until almost 4 months old. This will help prevent Parvo and distemper viruses as well as other diseases. The vet will also get her started on parasite prevention. At each visit he should also get a physical exam which will help catch any illness or injury. Cockapoos may have skin or ear problems or even occasionally orthopedic disease. But the best thing to prevent and treat is to have a relationship with a good veterinarian who knows Latte and you, that you feel comfortable taking him to in the event of illness or emergency.
A high quality puppy food by Hills, Iams or Royal Canin is also a good idea to ensure him the best start. Good luck and have fun with your pup.3 people found this answer helpful
