Does my dog need a Bordetella shot? And a heartworm test yearly? My dog is a maltipoo...9 1/2yrs old, neutered, very very healthy. No other dogs in the home. He does not stay outside ever. He does not go for walks. He is an indoor dog. Eats well, plays, sleeps good etc. He does not come into contact with other dogs...ever. Mobile groomer comes to my home. He is our world! Every year we took him to get his bordetella and do heartworm check....is it still necessary?

Yes, I definitely recommend continuing with the heartworm tests. Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes, and Cokey could get bit and infected even just going outside to go potty. As for the bordetella, if you aren't planning on boarding him at all and he doesn't have contact with other dogs, you don't need to keep up that vaccine. But definitely continue with the heartworm tests and treatments. I hope this helps :-)

Heartworm is spread by mosquitoes so there is always a chance of catching it, so I would continue your checks or treat to prevent it. Bordatella is spread from dog to dog so if you are sure he won't be in contact or in areas dogs go you could forgo this.
