My Italian greyhound is breaking out in hives like spots all over her body

Poor Rubt (or is it maybe Ruby?), she certainly does see to have some spots that look a lot like hives! Like humans, dogs can develop hives from things like contact irritation (like from a grass or weed in the yard, a household cleaning product, or some other substance that irritates the skin). Hives can also develop from things like food allergies, insect stings or bites, or even a shampoo or topical flea prevention, among other things. You may want to follow up with your veterinarian if these bumps persist overnight to make sure they are in fact hives. If they do appear to be hives she may prescribe a steroid or an antihistamine to help with the bumps. Your veterinarian may also recommend some diagnostic tests if they don't appear to be hives. If Rubt has any trouble breathing or is acting uncomfortable you should seek an emergency veterinarian as soon as possible. If she seems comfortable and isn't developing more bumps you might try rinsing her with some lukewarm water and gently patting her dry to help remove any possible skin irritants until you can get her in to see your vet. Good luck with your girl!

It does look like Ruby is breaking out in hives. This is likely an allergic reaction, which could be to an insect bite or something similar. I would take her to a veterinarian as she will likely need injections of steroids and antihistamines to counter the reaction.
