Hi, my dogs stomach is making very loud gurgling noises and he’s very restless, he keeps wanting to eat grass, should I be concerned?

Hello! I’m sorry to hear that Abu is not feeling well. What you describe sounds consistent with an upset stomach (gastritis, gastroenteritis), though without an exam i can not tell you this for sure. Abu may have eaten something that doesn’t agree with him, or he may have an infection in his stomach. The fact that he’s restless and wanting to eat grass makes me believe he may be gearing up to vomit (or have diarrhea). You may want to set up an area for him to stay in that has an easy to clean surface, like the bathroom or kitchen. He can be offered small amounts of water as long as he doesn’t vomit it up. I’d also recommend that you don’t feed him for 12-24 hours while his stomach rests. Once he seems less restless and gurgly, offer a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice or a canned food like Hills I/d (or something similar). If Abu vomits multiple times, or can’t keep down water, then I would be more concerned that he may have something more serious going on and should see a veterinarian. Best of luck to Abu!

Hello, I am so sorry for your concerns about Abu. Gas distension in the gut can be very uncomfortable at the least, & sometimes very painful. If you have some simethicone ( Gas-X ), you can give him about 50mg, & then no food for a minimum of 6-12 hours. Water is OK. The Simethicone can be repeated in 6 hours if necessary. Watch for any progression of signs, such as retching/vomiting, or noticeable abdominal bloating. Your pup may also be getting ready to develop diarrhea. If any of these develop, or he just does not seem to be improving, please see your veterinarian as soon as you can. I hope all is well soon. Take care.
