Why does he skip on his back legs when he walks? It's hard to explain but sometimes he'll kinda hop or skip on one of his back legs then switch to the other??

A likely cause for hopping or skipping on the back legs, especially in small breed dogs is a congenital condition called Patellar Luxation where the kneecap or patella slides in and out of the patellar or trochlear groove because of an abnormally shallow groove and or a patellar ligament attachment that is too far off to the side to adequately keep the kneecap in place during walking. The severity of patellar luxations in dogs can range from mild (requiring only activity restriction and benefiting from protective joint supplements) to severe (requiring surgery). Patellar luxations can predispose dogs to arthritis and other knee injuries such as cruciate ligament tears.
