Thank you for submitting your question regarding Banana. Rabbits are not commonly vaccinated for rabies as the disease is extremely rare in animals such as rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks. Furthermore, there has not been a case of transmission from one these animals to humans. This decreases the need to vaccinate these animals. As far as the rabies vaccine, it is a killed virus. This means that the virus is not able to be spread by the vaccine. I hope this information helps!

Hi Would you recommend vaccinating a cat (7 yo, indoor, no other pets) who has a fatty liver? His ALT has been between 140–180 units for the past 1.5 y, and CHOL ~ 7–8, despite being on a diet and having lost weight (he now weighs about 4.9 kg). He was vaccinated before, but after the liver issue was discovered, we stopped vaccinating him. If the fatty liver persists, would it still be advisable to resume vaccination, or would you recommend avoiding it to prevent additional strain on the liver?
Hello there,This is a good question. The absolute safest and most proactive measure would be to take bloodwork vaccine titers to see if Dushe has any preventive antibodies from previous vaccinations....

Higgins started making the awful crunch noise this past November. He’s only making it when he’s sleepy, sleeping, or waking up. I thought it was teeth grinding but to be safe I brought him to the vet and they checked his teeth, said he has a little bit of plaque but over all looked good. I asked the doctor what she thought the noise was and she said it’s probably just him adjusting his jaw. She obviously knows way more than I do about pet health, I’m worried cause he’s never done this before.
Hello,I can see why you would be concerned with a new onset of teeth grinding and noises. I'm glad to hear his overall oral health looks good. This definitely isn't a very common problem in dogs. My...

We are adopting a small dog from a shelter this weekend and need to bring her back 6 days later to be spayed. Will this cause too much trauma for her?
Hello there. I don't think this will be too traumatizing for her at all. I understand why you would ask though. I think it will be really good for her to get a little comfortable in her new...

I discovered my dog drinking out of a bucket of really gross dark green water outside. He was throwing up for a few days. I’ve since removed the bucket of water and he’s stopped throwing up. I am concerned however if he needs antibiotics or something in case there was a bacteria or parasite in the bucket of water. If he does I will call the vet and see what can be done but I’m limited on money right now so I’m asking here if an antibiotic is recommended?
Hi there,I am so glad to hear that Nyko has improved since removing the bucket of water. Please be gentle on yourself. I think many of us have found our dogs drinking gross water at some point. They...

I just asked about this and sent a pic but was able to get a better pic. Does the nail look broken? As far as I can tell, it's in between her nail and pad. I'll still keep it clean and all that. Unless this pic shows you more than the last. Thx!
Thank you for contacting PetCoach with your question about Willa. I see what you mean in the picture, it does appear that it is under the claw. I can't tell, however, if her claw has been affected...

Hello I have a pet hamster his name is Freddy I had to clean his enclosure last night and while he was out of his tank i was giving him treats to make him less stressed and I didnt realize that the baby food that had fruits and veggies also had some lemon juice in it which can be harmful to them I am worried and would like to know if he will be okay or not I saw him this morning and he seemed fine but I couldnt exactly tell since he looks the same usually.
Hello there,I think Freddy will likely be just fine. While citrus shouldn't be a major staple of their daily diet, a little bit in a treat should be okay. It's probably a preserving ingredient and...

The latest bloodworks from my senior 16 year old dog. He has been quite skinny now and not eating as much. But still has energy to walk around but probably fatigues easier than before. He has arthritis. Can any vet give their opinion on the bloodwork results? Is he near the end of his life? Since the ALT is over 1000
Hello,I am sorry to hear all of this about Gucci. Unfortunately, I do think it sounds like he is in the palliative stage of his life. When our pets are losing muscle mass in their senior years, it's...

Hello! I have a 6 mth old rescue orange tabby who was neutered at 9 weeks by the Humane Society. Im wondering if his glands were effected as he seems to always have an fecal/gland odor back there. Poor lil guy. Advice?
Hello there! I am sorry to hear that about your sweet Clyde. I don't think it has anything to do with neutering or it's timing. A consistent smell could be due to an anal gland problem though. Some...

If I take in a stray, is there any way my veterinary office can determine which vaccines she's had or is missing?
It's possible to determine what immunity the stray may have based on a blood titer test that will check for antibodies, however, in most cases it's less expensive (by a large margin) to just...

Hello, my name is Christine My two dogs ate a foam ball, like a quarter size of it actually. I called my vet and he said to give them some Hydro peroxide. I did and they threw up. I tried calling him back to see if there was anything else I needed to do or lookout for, but no one seems to pick up. Is everything going to be OK with my dogs? How long should I wait before feeding them and giving them water? How should they be acting after? One dog is about 7 pounds. The other one is about 10 pounds
Thank you for contacting PetCoach with your question about your dogs. I'm sorry they ate a foam ball, but it's good that they threw up. If they threw up the pieces of the ball, everything should be...

My dog , a golden retriever, ate some small grape leaves off a vine I was cutting down. No grapes, only leaves. He seems to be restless and in some discomfort. Is there something I can do to ease his tummy issues? Pepto bismal?
Thank you for contacting PetCoach with your question about Rio. He's such a handsome boy! The good news is that grape leaves are not toxic to dogs, only the grapes themselves. They can cause...

What's on my dog's foot? It's a small, dark, flat flap that's painless.
