Hi there and thank you for using PetCoach! Yes, Trazodone before general anesthetic is safe and I have done this many times. I am sorry to hear that Luna's trip to the vet clinic was not ideal. Many times, I try different scenarios to see if the dog does better. I've performed the physical exam outdoors so the dog does not feel cornered in the exam room and that has worked quite well for some. I've also taken the pet away from the pet owner (as long as the owner is ok with this) to see if the pet is less protective away from the owner and I have had MANY cases where the pet does remarkably well away from the owner. Each dog is different and the approach is never the same for every dog. We label dogs as "caution" at our hospital when they are protective and / or have a tendency to bite. This is to notify the staff to be cautious when approaching the pet or performing treatments. You can see if any of the above strategies help at the next visit but ultimately, it is up to the doctor at that hospital on how he / she handles the situation. Training would be highly recommended for Luna. Agility training may get her behavior in check so she is less likely to be stand offish to others in the future. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions / concerns.
