My dog gets what we think is arthritis in his right front leg . On 1/2 20mg prednisone.. Could baby aspirin be safer

Pred is a safer choice over aspirin. Few dogs tolerate aspirin well . Side effects can include lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea or dark stools. Consider adding in a quality fish oil supplement. Omega-3 fatty acids seem to lessen inflammation which is a large component in the progression of arthritis. Discuss a glucosamine-chondroitin supplement with your vet as well as possibly switching to a NSAID in the future to minimize long term effects of chronic steroid use.

The best treatment for arthritis in dogs would be a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory like Previcox, Deramaxx, or Rimadyl. Also, a joint supplement like Dasuquin may help, too. Discuss these treatment with your veterinarian.
